You can register a free domain in Nepal with .np extension at the end (www.example.com.np). The .np domain is a country code, top level domain which is controlled by Mercantile Communication Pvt. Ltd. You can get free domain for both your personal use or business purpose. You can also register other types of secondary level domains such as .edu.np, .gov.np, .org.np and many more.

Domain registration is free and you can obtain it from the Mercantile Communication. To obtain free domain you need to have following things ready.

• Citizenship certificate if for personal use and Pan certificate if for business purposes.
• A cover letter
• Webhosting or nameserver

STEP 1

Go to https://register.com.np and check if your desired domain name is available or not. Be sure that the domain name you are applying corresponds to your own name or the name of your business.

Step 2

Ok, great you just choosed your domain name. Now click the register button.

Step 3

You need to register an account. Click Create User and you’ll be redirected to the next page. Fill in all the correct details and click the create button.

Step 4

You need to log into your email and verify the registration.

Step 5

You can now log into your account. You’ll see the following page.

So you’ll need the name server of the hosting company that you plan to host your domain on. You can get cheap hosting from ehostingserver.com. They provide hosting starting as low as Rs 44 per month. If you plan to get hosting from them then you need to fill in ns1.ehostingserver.com and ns2.ehostingserver.com as nameservers.

After you have filled all your correct details, click the save and continue button.

Step 6

You will be asked to submit required doucuments. Choose citizenship from the drop down menu and choose your scanned citizenship certificate. Upload both front and back side of the certificate using same process.

Now choose the cover letter option from the same drop-down menu and upload your cover letter. Remember it has to be in image format. Here is the sample cover letter that you can use.

Click the Request Domain Button. You will be then redirected to the following page.
